An Island of Tropical Treasures

The largest of the British Virgin Islands, Tortola was once a haunt for buccaneers. Today this self-proclaimed yachting capital of the Caribbean attracts visitors from around the world with its powdery beaches, lush green mountains and bougainvillea-speckled hills. Relax on a beach, take surfing lessons, sample authentic Caribbean cuisine, or go exploring – there's much to discover.

At 1,716 feet, Sage Mountain is arguably the island's centerpiece, offering magnificent views of the Virgin Islands. The surrounding national park is home to a rainforest of tropical birds and mahogany trees. Another must-see attraction is Cane Garden Bay, consistently named one of the top ten beaches in the Caribbean, and home to an array of cozy bars, restaurants, and clubs. And for dive enthusiasts, there's the RMS Rhone, a fascinating sunken ship that was the setting for the film classic The Deep.
